It is storm season once again here in North Texas which means HAIL. This is a friendly reminder to keep up with the weather conditions and some information for you to think about if and/or when your home gets hit with hail.
First thing to do is to contact a few reputable roofers to come to your home for a roof inspection. You should do this prior to calling your insurance company. We have a list of roofers to recommend to you. Also keep in mind there are companies out there that will come knocking on your door. It is best to connect with a roofer that comes recommended by your friends and neighbors.
Another note to pass along is to not call the insurer itself until you are ready to file a claim. Discussing with your insurance agent prior to a claim is suggested. Read over the quote and if you have any questions on it be sure to ask the roofer. There are many elements that make up your roof which includes turbines, roof vents plus other items such as gutters, garage doors, screens, and so on.
If you are not aware, there is a report which is attached to your home for insurers on all claims. This can impact the insurability of your home even if you did not file a claim. They must report any details when you contact the insurer. There is a Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange or CLUE report which appears with your home. It is shared with all agencies and effects things when you go to sell your home.
As a reminder, a roofer should not be charging you for an inspection. Feel free to get a few quotes. This will allow to you to see if everyone is seeing the same issues or nothing to report or completely different opinions. Read over your reports and consider all the avenues you have available to you.
We are here to help you and have a list of roofers to recommend. Reach out if you need further assistance.
